About Savory Soul
Where Every Dish Tells a Story — and Every Recipe Feeds the Heart
Welcome to Savory Soul, your home for authentic Southern cooking and the rich stories behind every recipe.
Here, I celebrate the heart of soul food: the love, legacy, and laughter that fill every kitchen. From crispy fried chicken to creamy mac and cheese and sweet peach cobbler, I honor the recipes passed down through generations — the ones that nourish more than just the body.
Soul food is more than a meal; it’s a memory. It’s the Sunday dinners that brought family together, the aroma of collard greens simmering on the stove, and the sweet sound of cornbread crackling fresh out of the skillet.
At Savory Soul, I’m keeping our kitchen traditions alive and reminding you that these dishes aren’t just for special occasions. Folks often make them during the holidays, but these soulful flavors are meant to be enjoyed anytime your palate calls for comfort.
Our Mission
To share the flavor and spirit of authentic Southern cooking — one recipe at a time.
Whether you’re a seasoned cook or just starting your soul-food journey, our goal is to inspire you to cook with heart, season with love, and serve with joy.
Every dish I share tells a story — a story of community, comfort, and culture. I believe food connects generations and reminds us where we come from.

Meet the Cook
Hi, I’m Rita Ellis, founder of Savory Soul and lifelong lover of Southern cooking.
I started this site to preserve the flavors I grew up with (momma’s cooking) — the ones my family cooked on Sundays and any special days, — and to pass those traditions on to the next generation. Through each post, I hope to spark the same joy I felt watching my elders cook with care and creativity.
A Little Soul for Your Kitchen
So grab your apron, turn up your favorite tunes, and get ready to turn up in the kitchen and cook something soulful.
Because here at Savory Soul, it’s not just about what’s on the plate — it’s about the love behind it.
